NATO Delivers: Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow

Photo Exhibition - Chicago

NATO is cooperating with the Pritzker Military Library in Chicago to hold a photo exhibition on NATO efforts to support peace and security. The exhibition will run from 18 May - 7 July 2012 at the Pritzker Military Library and then will tour around the United States and Canada. The exhibition features over 90 images divided into the following six categories: Working Together; Providing Peace and Security; Countering and Preventing Terrorism; Safeguarding the Seas; Meeting Humanitarian Needs; and Tackling New Threats with New Capabilities. Cyber attacks, the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, terrorism and other emerging threats such as energy vulnerabilities are all matters of concerns to the security of NATO's almost 900 million citizens.

NATO Delivers: Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow - Working Together - NATO Summit - Chicago - 20-21 May 2012 18 May. 2012 French military vehicles drive off a US amphibious ship during the multinational exercise "Bold Alligator" in Virginia Beach, Virginia, in January 2012. The exercise was an example of interoperability in action. Partnerships are important for the overall effectiveness of the Alliance. Each NATO nation has its own way of conducting operations, but the interoperability challenges are met through observation, data collection and analysis during bilateral and multilateral exercises. Such exercises are used by NATO to help build better capabilities for the future. 
NATO Delivers: Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow - Countering and Preventing Terrorism - NATO Summit - Chicago - 20-21 May 2012 18 May. 2012 Slovak engineers search for mines and explosives buried in the ground in order to clear areas slated for development in Kandahar, Afghanistan. Over 50 percent more IEDs and mines are found and cleared by coalition troops than explode but the insurgents continue to rely on them as their main weapon in the campaign. The bombs take many civilian lives and over 60 percent of the civilian casualties caused by insurgents result from indiscriminate IED explosions. 
NATO Delivers: Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow - Safeguarding the Seas - NATO Summit - Chicago - 20-21 May 2012 18 May. 2012 Since August 2009, NATO ships patrol the waters off the Horn of Africa as part of Operation Ocean Shield. Their mission is to contribute to international efforts to counter maritime piracy. Operation Ocean Shield cooperates closely with other naval forces including US-led maritime forces, EU naval forces and national organizations operating against the threat of piracy in the region.

NATO Delivers: Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow - Meeting Humanitarian Needs - NATO Summit - Chicago - 20-21 May 2012 18 May. 2012 In one of the areas worst hit by a devastating earthquake in Pakistan in October 2005, NATO engineers supported the rebuilding of a village of Bagh. NATO Delivers: Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow - Tackling New Threats with New Capabilities - NATO Summit - Chicago - 20-21 May 2012 18 May. 2012 NATO's Joint Force Training Center (JFTC) in Bydgoszcz, Poland is a state-of-the-art center that supports training for NATO and partner forces to improve joint tactical interoperability. The center provides pre-deployment training to Regional Command Headquarters (RC HQs) and Operational Mission Liaison Teams for the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF). The center is a cornerstone of Allied Command Transformation (ACT), headquartered in Norfolk, Virginia – the only NATO headquarters on US soil. It works in coordination with the Joint Warfare Center (JWC) in Stavanger, Norway.
