System/Network Administrators from the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia¹ train in cyber defence

System/Network Administrators from the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia participated in a cyber defence training course at the Informatics Institute of the Middle East Technical University (METU) in Ankara, Turkey from 8 April to 19 April. The training course was supported by the NATO Science for Peace and Security (SPS) Programme and developed in close cooperation by experts from Turkey, Canada, and Georgia.

NATO Rapid Reaction Team to fight cyber attack

Cyber warfare is war without any noise, tanks or aircraft. Currently, it is a profitable, relatively risk-free and anonymous crime. It is often difficult to identify the origin or perpetrators of the attack - and this is the main problem. In order to be more effective, all the parties involved must work together: NATO, the private sector, international organizations, academia. By the end of 2012, a rapid reaction team (RRT) capability of NATO cyber defence experts will be operational.

NATO signs contract for Cyber Defence

The NATO Consultation, Command and Control Agency (NC3A) celebrated with a ceremony on 8 March 2012 the award of a contract for upgrading the NATO cyber defence capabilities. The award to private industrial companies will enable the already operating NATO Computer Incident Response Capability (NCIRC) to achieve full operational capability by the end of 2012.

NATO Secretary General praises Estonia’s commitment to Smart Defence

NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen visited Estonia on 19-20 January 2012 and met with President Toomas Hendrik Ilves, Prime Minister Andrus Ansip and Minister of Foreign Affairs Urmas Paet. The Secretary General also visited the Cooperative Cyber Defence Centre of Excellence in Tallinn and met with Minister of Defence Mart Laar.

Cyber Coalition 2011 exercise tests NATO procedures for cyber defence

NATO conducted from 13 to 15 December a cyber defence exercise in order to test technical and operational Alliance cyber defence capabilities. The exercise called Cyber Coalition 2011 was an opportunity to test Alliance working procedures for responding to large scale cyber attacks targeting information infra-structures of NATO and individual countries.

Yalta hosts expert talks on cyber defence

Cyber crime and cyber terrorism know no borders – robust defence and deterrence calls for cooperation between the public and private sectors as well as at the international level. For the first time, Ukraine’s leading IT companies were invited to participate in roundtable discussions on cyber defence, which were jointly organized in Yalta on 12 October by the Security Service of Ukraine and NATO. The fourth round of NATO-Ukraine staff talks on cyber defence took place the following day.
