Secretary General stresses NATO's commitment to collective security in visit to Lithuania

The Alliance’s Air Policing Mission over the three Baltic States was hailed as a concrete example of NATO solidarity in action by NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg during a visit to the Karmelava Airspace Control Centre in Lithuania on Friday (21 November 2014). ''Collective defence is our core task,'' Mr Stoltenberg said, "NATO stands with Lithuania – as we do with each and every Ally.''

NATO Military Committee Chairman's visit to Ukraine highlights NATO-Ukraine intensified partnership

NATO stands by its long-standing partnership with Ukraine, General Bartels, Chairman of the NATO Military Committee, said during his visit to Kyiv on Thursday and Friday (20-21 November 2014). “We will continue to support the reform of your security sector and the modernisation of your armed forces to defend a sovereign, united and democratic Ukraine,” General Bartels said.

NATO will protect every Ally, Secretary General says in Latvia

Arriving in Riga on Thursday (20 November 2014), NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg emphasised that the Alliance will “protect and defend each and every Ally.” The Secretary General said that commitment is clear to see: "NATO aircraft are policing Baltic skies, NATO ships are patrolling the Baltic Sea, and NATO forces are starting an exercise in Europe every two days."

‘’All for one, one for all’’ : NATO Secretary General stresses solidarity in Estonia

The NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg started a trip to Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania with a visit to Estonia’s Ämari Airbase on Thursday (20 November 2014), where he stressed Alliance solidarity. “NATO’s greatest responsibility is to protect and defend our Allies. And NATO is here to protect and defend Estonia,” he said. On his way, Mr Stoltenberg's plane was escorted by two Dutch fighter jets based in Poland as part of NATO's air policing mission, while at Amari, he met with US, German and Estonian troops. He made clear the presence of jets and troops from many nations demonstrates “the resolve of all Allies to stand with the Baltic nations. All for one. One for all.”

Largest ever NATO cyber defence exercise gets underway

NATO launched its largest ever multinational cyber defence exercise, “Cyber Coalition 2014” on Tuesday (18 November). The three-day training event will test the Alliance’s ability to defend its networks from the various challenges that exist when operating in the contested cyber domain. “This exercise will test our systems to make sure that NATO keeps pace with that evolving threat and that the skills and expertise of our cyber specialists are fully up to the task,” said Ambassador Sorin Ducaru, NATO Assistant Secretary General for Emerging Security Challenges. “Among the priorities highlighted in the Enhanced NATO Policy on Cyber Defence, endorsed at the Wales Summit, is training and exercises.”

NATO Secretary General calls for closer cooperation with the EU

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg called for closer cooperation between NATO and the European Union to address common security challenges the two organisations face, during his first meeting with EU Defence Ministers on Tuesday (18 November 2014). “The European Union is an essential and strong partner of NATO. We share the same values, we share many common members and we also share common challenges to the East and to the South,” said Mr. Stoltenberg.

NATO Secretary General hails Partnership with Georgia

The NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg welcomed Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili to NATO Headquarters on Monday (17 November). After their meeting, the Secretary General thanked Prime Minister Garibashvili for his nation’s valuable contributions to the Alliance, saying Georgia, a country that aspires for NATO membership ''is one of our most committed partners'' and ''plays an outstanding role in our operations.''
