Deputy Secretary General in Romania outlines NATO's response to new security environment

NATO Deputy Secretary General Alexander Vershbow outlined NATO’s response to the new security environment in a speech at the Annual Meeting of Romanian Diplomacy in Bucharest on Monday (29 August 2016). Noting that challenges posed by Russia and from terrorism "will be with us for many years to come," he stressed that "NATO has always done what was necessary to protect the territory of its Allies and the freedom of its people."

United States to augment air policing over Bulgaria, demonstrating Allied solidarity

The US Air Force and the Bulgarian Air Force will jointly conduct air policing to protect Bulgarian airspace starting on 9 September 2016. Two US F-15 fighter jets will join Bulgaria’s MIG-29s for a week on this mission, which is part of NATO’s enhanced air policing measures for eastern Allies.

KFOR helps Skopje authorities deal with serious flood disaster

Personnel from NATO’s KFOR (Kosovo Force) began flood disaster relief operations in Skopje on Thursday (11 August 2016) following a request for support from local authorities. Personnel and engineer assets drawn from KFOR’s Swiss and Austrian contingents arrived in Skopje on Wednesday evening with heavy lift and engineer assets, including loaders, excavators and dumper trucks, in order to support disaster relief operations led by national authorities.

NATO prepares major boost to aerial refueling capability

NATO is preparing a major boost to its ability to refuel aircraft in mid-air, with the signature of an agreement between the Netherlands and Luxembourg to acquire two Airbus A330 Multi Role Tanker Transport (A330 MRTT) aircraft. The new tankers will be acquired on behalf of the participating nations and NATO. They can support NATO and European Union operations, as well as multinational and national ones.

NATO Air Policing jets train with US bomber

Change of Command - Director General of the NATO International Military Staff

Lieutenant General Jan Broeks took over the position of Director General of the NATO International Military Staff (DGIMS) from outgoing Director General, Air Marshal Sir Christopher Harper today (27 July 2016). Lieutenant General Broeks is a three star General in the Royal Netherlands Army who was elected by the NATO Chiefs of Defence in September 2015 and will serve a term of three years.

​The NATO Communication and Information (NCI) Agency is announcing business opportunities in cyber, air and missile defence as well as advanced software, worth 3 billion EUR. This comes in parallel to decisions taken at the Warsaw Summit to strengthen the Alliance's deterrence and defence.
