NATO’s relations with Russia

The 28 Allies and Russia work together as equal partners in the NATO-Russia Council (NRC), which was established in 2002. The NRC provides a framework for consultation on current security issues and practical cooperation in a wide range of areas of common interest. Its agenda builds on the basis for bilateral cooperation that was set out in the 1997 NATO-Russia Founding Act, which provided the formal basis for relations.

NATO-Russia Council expands Helicopter Maintenance Trust Fund Project for Afghanistan

Building on the successful completion of the first phase of the Helicopter Maintenance Trust Fund Project, NATO-Russia Council (NRC) foreign ministers agreed on 23 April to expand the project into new areas. The project is helping the Afghan Air Force (AAF) to develop the capabilities needed to operate and maintain its fleet of helicopters independently, including much-needed spare parts and technical training.

NATO-Russia Council expands support to Afghan Air Force

NATO Foreign Ministers together with their Russian counterpart, Minister Sergey Lavrov, agreed to expand their support for the Afghan Air Force during a meeting of the NATO-Russia Council (NRC) on Tuesday (23 April). “Today we launched the second phase of the NATO-Russia Trust Fund for the maintenance of helicopters in Afghanistan,” said NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen.
