This multinational consortium finances the charter of up to eleven special “roll-on/roll-off” ships (commonly, Ro/Ro; so called because equipment can be driven onto and off of the ships via special doors and ramps into the hold). The consortium includes Canada, Denmark, Germany, Hungary, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Portugal, Slovenia and the United Kingdom.
NATO member countries have pooled their resources to assure access to special ships, giving the Alliance the capability to rapidly transport forces and equipment by sea.
