Anti-submarine warfare exercise ‘Dynamic Mongoose’ starts off Norwegian coast

NATO started its biggest anti-submarine warfare exercises this year in the North Sea on Monday (4 May 2015), for drills focused on detecting and defending against submarines.

Norway takes the lead in NATO’s Baltic Air Policing mission

Norway will assume lead responsibility for NATO’s air policing mission over the Baltic states of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania on Friday (1 May 2015). The United Kingdom will also rejoin the mission while Italy and Belgium will continue their participation. A handover ceremony is taking place on Thursday (30 April 2015) at Šiauliai airbase in Lithuania, where Italy will formally transfer lead responsibility for the mission to Norway.

NATO Secretary General praises Croatia for contributions to shared security

Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg welcomed Croatian President Kolinda Grabar-Kitarović to NATO headquarters on Wednesday (29 April 2015) for talks on the security environment and NATO’s continued adaptation. Calling Croatia a “staunch Ally”, Mr. Stoltenberg thanked the President personally for her “deep strength and dedication to this Alliance for many years.”

NATO Agency and Ukraine sign Trust Fund agreement

NSPA General Manager, Mike Lyden participated in a signing ceremony with His Excellency Mr Ihor Dolhov the Permanent Representative of Ukraine to NATO, to bring into force a memorandum of understanding (MOU) between Ukraine and NSPA.

NATO and Portugal discuss new security challenges to the south and east

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg commended Portugal for its contributions to Allied security during a visit to Lisbon on Monday (27 April 2015). He stressed that NATO is adapting to new security challenges in order to keep all Allies safe. In a joint press conference following a meeting with Foreign Minister Dr. Rui Machete, Mr. Stoltenberg called Portugal “a staunch Ally”, which is contributing to keep NATO strong to deal with the the changed security environment.

NATO Ships Complete Participation in Exercise Joint Warrior

LIVERPOOL, UK – Three of NATO’s Standing Naval Forces have completed their participation in the UK-led Exercise JOINT WARRIOR 15-1: Standing NATO Maritime Group TWO (SNMG2) and Standing NATO Mine Counter-Measures Groups ONE and TWO (SNMCMG1/2), following nearly two weeks of intense multi-national training. NATO’s three SNFs joined more than 40 additional warships and submarines and 70 aircraft. In total, around 13,000 personnel participated in the exercise.

“Women key to peace and security in Afghanistan” NATO Special Representative for Women, Peace and Security said in Kabul

Peace and security cannot be sustained without the full participation of women in all aspects of society, including the provision of security, Marriët Schuurman, NATO’s Secretary General's Special Representative for Women, Peace and Security stressed as she completed a 3-day visit in Afghanistan. “NATO will continue to support Afghanistan to safeguard an enabling environment for women to fully contribute to building a safer society”.

NATO Team Tops Cyber Exercise

A team of NATO cyber defenders from the NATO Computer Incident Response Capability (NCIRC), based in Mons Belgium, won the largest international cyber defence exercise ‘Locked Shields 2015’, which concluded on 24 April in Estonia.
