''Greater solidarity, strength and readiness'': NATO Secretary General marks opening of six new headquarters in Eastern Allies
NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg attended the inauguration of a NATO Force Integration Unit (NFIU) in Vilnius, Lithuania on Thursday (3 September 2015), calling the opening “a big step forward towards greater solidarity, greater strength, and greater readiness.” The Lithuanian NFIU is one of six small new headquarters activated this month in Lithuania, as well as in Bulgaria, Estonia, Latvia, Poland and Romania.

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg thanked Prime Minister Xavier Bettel for Luxembourg’s political, military, and financial contributions to the Alliance in a visit to the Grand Duchy on Wednesday (2 September 2015). In a joint press conference with Prime Minister Bettel, Mr. Stoltenberg thanked Luxembourg for being a reliable Ally, and welcomed the country’s role in strengthening the Alliance’s shared security.

General Petr Pavel, the new Chairman of NATO's Military Committee, paid his first visit to Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe, Belgium on 24 August. Pavel, who has held the position since June 26, made the trip to meet with General Philip M. Breedlove, Supreme Allied Commander Europe and Commander of U.S. European Command. During the visit, the leaders discussed the strategic role of NATO and its current and future operational importance.

This unique artwork collection includes posters created in-house and items donated to NATO by various organisations and private individuals. Gathered together in the History section of the NATO website, the five new galleries are titled ‘Paix et Liberté’, ‘How NATO Works’, ‘Uniforms’, ‘Anniversary’ and ‘Afghanistan’.

Four Czech Air Force JAS-39 Gripen aircraft are currently conducting air patrols and training in the skies above Iceland under the Alliance’s air surveillance mission for the Nordic NATO Ally. The fighter jets and 70 personnel took up their duties at the end of July. Their task is to provide “airborne surveillance and interception capabilities to meet Iceland’s peacetime preparedness needs.” The Czech Air Force will conduct the mission through 29 August 2015.
