17 May. 2013		NATO Secretary General addresses NATO Parliamentary Assembly in Luxembourg The NATO-led mission in Afghanistan was a main point of discussion during the joint meeting of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly and the North Atlantic Council at the Assembly’s spring session, attended by NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen on Friday (17 May 2013) in Luxembourg. ''In 2001, Afghanistan was used as a launching pad by international terrorists to devastating effect. That launching pad is no more and the threat to our nations has been reduced. So we have made real and tangible progress,'' the Secretary General said.
14 May. 2013		169th NATO Chiefs of Defence meeting NATO and Partners’ Chiefs of Defence will gather at NATO Headquarters on 14-15 May for the second Military Committee in Chiefs of Defence format of 2013. General Knud Bartels, Chairman of the Military Committee, will chair the discussions on NATO Transformation, Afghanistan post-2014, Kosovo and Special Partnerships. General Philip Breedlove, new Supreme Allied Commander, Europe (as of 13 May) and General Jean-Paul Paloméros, Supreme Allied Commander, Transformation will support sessions with their insights.
14 May. 2013 - 15 May. 2013		NATO Chiefs of Defence discuss Afghanistan, Partnerships and Transformation Brussels – NATO Chiefs of Defence reaffirmed their commitment to support the ISAF Commander over the next 19 months, which will be crucial in determining the outcome of the mission. The Military Committee also discussed opportunities to deepen military-to-military cooperation with NATO Partners. Delving into transformation, they expressed support for ongoing and future initiatives, particularly Smart Defence and the Connected Forces, to achieve best value for money while building on lessons learned from operations.

13 May. 2013		NATO Secretary General welcomes new Supreme Allied Commander Europe United States Air Force General Philip Mark Breedlove took over command of NATO’s Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe (SHAPE) from Admiral James Stavridis during a handover ceremony in Mons, Belgium on Monday ( 13 May 2013). "I am honoured to be here today for this handover ceremony to thank Admiral Stavridis for his outstanding contribution to transatlantic security and to welcome our new Supreme Allied Commander, General Breedlove, to the Alliance," said NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen, who attended the ceremony.

The European Security Strategy was drawn up in 2003 under the authority of the EU's High Representative for the Common Foreign and Security Policy, Javier Solana, and adopted by the European Council in Brussels on 12 and 13 December 2003.
08 May. 2013		Secretary General attends Norwegian Veterans' Day commemoration NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen joined King Harald V, Prime Minister Jens Stoltenberg and other top officials in marking Norwegian Veterans' and Liberation Day in Oslo on Wednesday (8 May 2013). “We are gathered to show our sincere gratitude and respect for the Norwegian men and women who have worn Norwegian defence uniforms,” said the Secretary General.
07 May. 2013		North Atlantic Council wraps up visit to Norway NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen and Ambassadors from the North Atlantic Council (NAC) wrapped up a two-day visit to Norway on Tuesday (7 May 2013) with a visit to the Norwegian Armed Forces operational command centre in Bodø. The Secretary General thanked Norway for its contributions to NATO missions. “Our North Atlantic Council visit is a clear sign of the important role Norway plays in the Alliance,” he said.
06 May. 2013 - 07 May. 2013		NATO and its Partners to discuss non-proliferation and disarmament challenges The ninth Annual NATO Conference on WMD Arms Control, Disarmament and Non-proliferation is taking place this year in the Croatian town of Split on 6th and 7th May. Hosted by the Croatian Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs, the event will bring together senior officials from countries on four continents and the major international organizations.
