NATO leaders meet amid fundamental security changes

Russia’s aggressive actions against Ukraine has led to a “fundamental change” in NATO’s relationship with Russia, a change that means the Alliance now needs to focus once more on the basics – on protecting Allies and on strengthening collective defence. “But defending Allies’ territory is not NATO’s only task; managing crises and cooperating with our partner nations and other international organizations make a vital contribution to our collective security,” said NATO Deputy Secretary General Ambassador Alexander Vershbow, in an address to the NATO Parliamentary Assembly in London, on Tuesday (2 September 2014).

ISAF Allies and Partners confirm support to the Afghan National Army

At the first meeting of the Afghan National Army Trust Fund Board this morning (Monday, 1 September], NATO Allies and ISAF partners launched the adapted Afghan National Army (ANA) Trust Fund , which will be used to continue to support the Afghan army after 2014. “This ANA Trust Fund Board has a crucial role to play in monitoring the ANA Trust Fund and in reviewing its management and implementation”, Ambassador Alexander Vershbow, Deputy Secretary General of NATO and Co-Chairman of the Board, said.
