On 27 March 2012, the Institute of International Relations of the Kyiv National Taras Shevchenko University hosted the opening ceremony, followed by an awards ceremony. It brought together the competition winners, participants, jury panel, as well as representatives of the university, the NATO Information and Documentation Centre in Ukraine and NATO Allies.
“The idea behind the competition was both simple and complex, as was the topic at hand,” said Natalia Nemyliwska, Director of the NATO Information and Documentation Centre in Ukraine. “We were positively impressed as many students from different regions of Ukraine took part in the competition and all of them shared their personal view of security.”

The competition attracted broad participation from students majoring in journalism at Ukraine’s institutions of higher education. A professional jury, consisting of TV journalists, TV hosts and political journalists who teach at the Institute of Journalism of the Kyiv Taras Shevchenko National University, assessed their efforts. Participants were recognized for their efforts. Certificates and prizes were also awarded.
A video collage compiling the best student video works was produced and will be placed on the official NATO webpage. “We hope to continue this competition in the year to come. We are planning to develop this direction and hope that our partnering universities and students will support us in doing so,” said Ms. Nemyliwska during her opening remarks at the ceremony.
