Central Asian experts discuss energy security issues

A conference entitled “25 Years of Independence: Energy Security Issues in Central Asia and Beyond” took place in Ashgabat on 14-15 December 2016 with the participation of experts from Afghanistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan. The event in Turkmenistan provided an opportunity to reflect on security challenges and regional cooperation strategies in particular in the energy sector.

Deputy Secretary General joins security leaders at Snow meeting

NATO Deputy Secretary General Rose Gottemoeller visited Lithuania on Thursday and Friday (12 and 13 January 2017) to participate in the high-level Snow Meeting, bringing together Lithuanian and international security experts. In the margins of the forum, Ambassador Gottemoeller met with Lithuanian Foreign Minister Linas Linkevičius and Defence Minister Raimundas Karoblis.

Secretary General: New Zealand is one of NATO’s closest global partners

Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg welcomed New Zealand’s Prime Minister Bill English to NATO Headquarters on Thursday (12 January 2017) for talks on the partnership between the Alliance and New Zealand. The two leaders also exchanged views on security challenges in Europe and in the Asia-Pacific region, including the common threat of terrorism.

The Netherlands takes lead of NATO's Baltic Air Policing mission

‎The Netherlands succeeded France in leading NATO's Baltic Air Policing mission at a ceremony at Lithuania's Siauliai Air Base on Thursday (5 January 2017). The Royal Netherlands Air Force will safeguard the skies over Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania through the end of April. The Dutch contribution will be augmented by a detachment of the German Air Force, operating out of Amari, Estonia.

Secretary General welcomes Japanese Defence Minister to NATO Headquarters

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg welcomed Japanese Defence Minister Tomomi Inada to NATO Headquarters on Thursday (5 January 2017). It was the first visit to NATO by a Japanese Defence Minister since 2007. The two leaders discussed progress in NATO-Japan cooperation and exchanged views on the security situation, including in the Asia-Pacific region.

Holiday greetings to the troops

In his end of the year message to the forces working under NATO command, Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg thanks the troops for their hard work in dangerous and demanding places, such as training recruits in Afghanistan, patrolling the Baltic airspace and the Mediterranean Sea, and keeping the peace in Kosovo.
