NATO Secretary General expresses shock at Ottawa attack

I am shocked and saddened by today’s shootings in Ottawa. I offer my deepest condolences to the family of the Canadian Armed Forces member who was killed today, as well as to the family of the soldier who was killed earlier this week. My thoughts are also with all those who were injured.

Deputy Secretary General calls for closer cooperation with Gulf partners

NATO Deputy Secretary General, Alexander Vershbow, spoke in favour of deepening NATO’s partnership with countries in the Gulf to ensure that “we will be even better able to respond to future security challenges”, during a speech on Sunday (19 October) at the Abu Dhabi Strategic Debate. Ambassador Vershbow said that NATO and regional partners of the Gulf should intensify political dialogue and practical cooperation; work together to strengthen maritime security and further strengthen the ability of their military forces to work together. During his speech, the Deputy Secretary General also addressed the risk the terrorist organization ISIL poses to the Middle East and beyond, including to NATO and EU member states, by saying that “dealing with this threat requires a broad, multinational effort covering a range of different measures”.

NATO Naval Drills Begin in Mediterranean Sea, Atlantic Ocean

A large fleet of naval vessels is taking part in the multinational “Noble Justification” military exercise which is underway in the Mediterranean Sea and Atlantic Ocean. More than twenty warships, and several submarines and aircraft, are involved in the drills. "The exercise Noble Justification is a substantial opportunity for NATO to develop force integration, multinational inter-operability and enhance readiness, by using of an improved technology", said NATO's Maritime Commander, Vice Admiral Peter Hudson.

Visiting the Patriot deployment at Gaziantep, the NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg thanked personnel from the United States, Germany, the Netherlands, host nation Turkey and other Allies on Friday (10 October) for their contribution to reinforcing Turkey's air defence. “Your mission is more important than ever, and Allies remain committed to this vital mission,” the Secretary General said.

Regional security in Central Asia tops agenda in Uzbekistan
