NATO supports Jordan’s national cyber defence strategy

NATO and the Jordanian Armed Forces inaugurated the newly established Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT) in Amman on 19 July 2017. The CERT was set up as part of a NATO Science for Peace and Security (SPS) project to enhance Jordanian cyber defence capabilities.

NATO releases the Resource Policy and Planning Board’s 2016 Annual Report

NATO’s Resource Policy and Planning Board (RPPB) published its 2016 Annual Report on Thursday (20 July 2017). The RPPB is a subsidiary body of the North Atlantic Council and has a lead policy and planning role in all NATO military common funded resource areas. The Annual Report analyses how NATO’s common-funded resources support approved Alliance objectives and priorities; assesses the performance of military common funding; and reviews the financial situation of the NATO Security Investment Programme and the Civil and Military Budgets.

NATO provides swift forest fire assistance to new Ally Montenegro

NATO Allies and partners are providing aircraft and helicopters to help Montenegro deal with forest fires in the Lustica peninsula. Montenegro approached NATO’s Euro-Atlantic Disaster Response Coordination Centre (EADRCC) for assistance on Monday (17 July 2017), and the request was immediately circulated to NATO Allies and partners. A Ukrainian fire-fighting aircraft Antonov 32P has been in Montenegro since Tuesday, and two helicopters – contributed by Bulgaria and Switzerland – arrived in Montenegro on Wednesday. Two more fire-fighting aircraft will be deployed from Israel in the coming days.

Chairman of the NATO Military Committee visits Romania and Exercise Saber Guardian

From 12-15 July 2017, General Petr Pavel, Chairman of the NATO Military Committee visited Romania where he met with the President, Mr. Klaus Iohannis, the Minister of National Defence, Mr. Adrian Țuțuianu, and the Chief of General Staff, General Nicolae-Ionel Ciucă. General Pavel also visited the NATO enhanced Air Policing Mission and observed the US-led multinational exercise Saber Guardian 17.

Forest fires in Montenegro - Request for assistance and situation reports

Following forest fires that hit villages on the Luštica peninsula (Montenegro), endangering the lifes of hundreds of people, the Euro-Atlantic Disaster Response Coordination Centre (EADRCC) received a request for assistance on 17 July 2017.

Statement by the North Atlantic Council on the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK)

The North Atlantic Council (NAC) condemns in the strongest possible terms the Democratic People's Republic of Korea's (DPRK) unprecedented launch of a ballistic missile of intercontinental range on 4 July, a major escalation that directly violates multiple United Nations (UN) Security Council resolutions and clearly demonstrates the growing threat posed by the DPRK to the Alliance, to global peace and security, as well as to the global non-proliferation regime. We are supportive of efforts underway at the United Nations to impose additional sanctions on the DPRK, and call for all nations to fully implement existing UN sanctions and make further efforts to apply decisive pressure to convince the DPRK regime to abandon its current threatening and destabilising path.

Secretary General: NATO values its partnership with Ukraine

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg underlined the Alliance’s continuing support for Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity in Kyiv on Monday (10 July 2017). Mr. Stoltenberg and the North Atlantic Council are marking twenty years of NATO’s Distinctive Partnership with Ukraine. At a joint press conference with President Petro Poroshenko, Mr. Stoltenberg highlighted NATO’s practical and political support for Ukraine.

NATO Secretary General stresses Alliance’s strong support for Ukraine

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg ended a two-day visit to Ukraine on Monday evening (10 July 2017), during which he reaffirmed the Alliance’s strong political and practical support for Ukraine. Mr. Stoltenberg was in Kyiv together with the Ambassadors of NATO’s North Atlantic Council to mark the twentieth anniversary since the signing of the Distinctive Partnership between NATO and the Ukraine.
