Lieutenant General Brovold was born on 25 May 1954, in Trondheim. He entered the Army in 1975 and he graduated from the Army Military Academy in 1982.
Brovold has graduated from the National staff and Defence college.
In the period 1993 - 1997 the General was the Chief Land Operations Centre / Regional Command South Thereafter his order took him to Belgium as Deputy J-5, Allied Command Europe Reaction Force
From 2000 to 2002, he was Chief Land Operations Centre / Regional Command South before he in 2002 became Chief of Staff, Regional Command South.
In 2003 Brovold was appointed the Inspector General Norwegian Home Guard.
As of Aug 2009, he has been the Commander of the Norwegian Joint Headquarters (NJHQ)
Lt Gen Bernt Brovold resides in Trondheim and has two grown up children.
