NATO and Iraq transition towards strengthened partnership

In June, NATO opened a temporary Transition Cell in Iraq to smooth the path towards strengthened partnership and cooperation. NATO and Iraq have agreed to further promote strategic dialogue and strengthen Iraq’s security capability through capacity building, exchange, education and training.

NATO Secretary General announces completion of the NATO Training Mission in Iraq (NTM-I)

The North Atlantic Council has decided to undertake the permanent withdrawal of the NATO Training Mission-Iraq personnel from Iraq by 31 December 2011, when the current mandate of the mission expires. Agreement on the extension of this successful programme did not prove possible despite robust negotiations conducted over several weeks. NATO remains fully committed to our partnership and political relationship with Iraq, through our existing Structured Cooperation Framework.

Training the Oil Police

In a dusty training area of Camp Dublin, new recruits into the Iraqi police force are put through their paces by the Italian paramilitary police for a special seven-week course. The Carabineri shout commands and the recruits swiftly drop a knee to the floor and fire at invisible targets. Others are being shown how to preserve crime scenes or are taught special self-defence techniques.

NATO trains Iraqi Oil Police trainers

Baghdad, IRAQ – NATO’s training Mission in Iraq (NTM-I) has graduated the first set of Iraqi Oil Police trainers from its new course located Base Camp Dublin outside of Baghdad, on 3rd February, fulfilling a request from the Iraqi Government for specialized training of its security forces.

NTM-I graduates 749 Iraqi Federal Police

Members of the Iraqi Federal Police and Zerevani, Kurdish regional government police forces, graduated from a specialized NATO Training Mission-Iraq training course on December 19 at the Federal Police Special Training Academy at Camp Dublin.

NATO begins English language training in Iraq

The NATO Training Mission - Iraq began its English language training programme this month at the Iraqi Military Academy in Ar Rustamiyah (IMAR). The course, taught by more than 100 US Department of Defense and contracted instructors, will prepare Iraqi Security Forces for specialized training in fields requiring proficiency in English, such as aviation.
