Major air and missile defence exercise starts off Scotland

A major Allied air and missile defence exercise got underway at the Hebrides Range in the Western Isles off Scotland on Sunday (24 September 2018) with the aim of fostering cooperation between NATO Allies in the face of possible missile threats. Exercise "Formidable Shield", which runs until 18 October, involves ships and aircraft from Canada, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Spain, the United Kingdom and the United States. 14 ships, 10 aircraft and around 3,300 personnel will be involved in the exercise.

Forest and wild fires in Georgia - Request for assistance and situation reports

On 23 September 2017 the Euro-Atlantic Disaster Response Coordination Centre (EADRCC) received a request for assistance from Georgia to fight a forest fire that started near the Tsaghvery district, Borjomi Municipality (Samtskhe-Javakheti Region) in Georgia, on 22 September.

Activities at NATO‎-Kuwait ICI Regional Center start

On 17-20 September, the NATO-Kuwait ICI Regional Center began its activities in Kuwait City, with the organisation of a "NATO Week" focusing on cooperation in: NATO Political and Military issues, the NATO Science for Peace Programme, Cyber Defense, Chemical Biological Radiological and Nuclear Consequence Management, Critical Infrastructure and Energy Security, Maritime Security, Crisis Management and Civil Preparedness.

NATO and Polish university enhance Ukraine’s defence education through e-learning

A group of ten specialists from the National Defence University (NDU) of Ukraine completed a course in electronic learning (e-learning) at the Cuiavian University in Wloclawek, Poland from 8 to 12 September 2017. They received their certification from the Rector of the Cuiavian University, Professor Stanislaw Kunikowski. The course was part of NATO’s work with Ukraine to further develop its defence education system under the Organization’s Defence Education Enhancement Programme (DEEP).

Secretary General meets US commanders for talks on NATO’s role in fighting terrorism

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg visited US Central Command (CENTCOM) and Special Operations Command (SOCOM) at MacDill Air Force Base in Tampa, Florida on Wednesday (20 September 2017) for talks on stepping up NATO’s role in fighting terrorism. NATO works with both commands to fight terrorist organisations and project stability by strengthening partner countries.

NATO Secretary General joins world leaders at UN General Assembly in New York

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg joined world leaders at the opening of the 72nd session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York on Tuesday (19 September 2017). This year’s debate emphasizes the needs of the world’s ordinary people. During his four-day visit to the United States, Mr. Stoltenberg will meet with UN Secretary-General António Guterres and other high-level officials.
