NATO expresses strong solidarity with Turkey at special meeting of the North Atlantic Council

Ambassadors of all 28 NATO Allies met in the North Atlantic Council on Tuesday (28 July 2015) following a request by Turkey for consultations under Article 4 of the Washington Treaty. Turkey requested the meeting in view of the recent serious terrorist attacks on its territory. All Allies condemned the attacks and expressed condolences to the Turkish government and the families of the victims. They stressed that NATO is following developments very closely on the Alliance’s south-eastern border, and stands “in strong solidarity with Turkey.”

Statement by the North Atlantic Council following meeting under Article 4 of the Washington Treaty

The North Atlantic Council met today at Turkey’s request to hold consultations under Article 4 of the Washington Treaty, which states that “the parties will consult whenever, in the opinion of any of them, the territorial integrity, political independence, or security of any of the parties is threatened.”

NATO launches English language training for Uzbek officers

A new English language training course for Uzbek officers will begin next week in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. Up to 15 competitively selected candidates will undergo the six-month pilot programme focusing on military terminology.

Trident Juncture 2015: NATO’s most ambitious exercise for over a decade

Central Asian and Afghan students discuss peace and security in Tajikistan

The 11th Central Asian Regional Summer Diplomatic Course (Summer Academy) took place from 7 to 11 July in Romit, Tajikistan. This year’s theme, “Partnership for Peace: Common Interests and Challenges in Central Asia”, focused on socio-political developments in the region, possible future security scenarios, the role of international organisations and the benefits of partnership.
