Vilnius, 4 April 2012 - LtGen Jürgen Bornemann, Director General of the International Military Staff (DGIMS), paid an official visit to Lithuania on invitation of the Chief of Defense of the Lithuanian Armed Forces, LtGen Arvydas Pocius.

The visit started with an address of LtGen J. Bornemann to the 2nd Conference on Transformation of the National Energy Security Center into a NATO Center of Excellence.

He later met  with the Ministry of Defense, H.E. Mrs. Rasa Juknevičienė, and the Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mrs. Asta Skaisgiryté-Liauskienè, who briefed the NATO delegation about the regional security situation. Meetings with Lithuanian Chief of Defence's Staff, including Representatives of the Lithuanian Armed Forces, focused mainly on major security topics of common interest such as Air Policing and Exercising. All discussions were held in a frank and open atmosphere, and included topics that will be on the agenda of the coming Chicago Summit.

The programme continued with DG IMS delivering an address to young cadets of the National Defense University and students of Mykolas Romeris University, with his vision on the topic "NATO Today". In his speech he discussed about new ways of how to guarantee the security of our citizens in an ever more globalized world, as well as partnerships as being a key success factor for the Alliance in an era of diversified threats, financial austerity and flexible, quick coalition building.

Finally, NATO delegation had also the opportunity to visit the Special Operations Center of the Lithuanian Armed Forces.
