NATO and Pakistan discuss relief efforts for flood victims
On 15 October, NATO's Deputy Secretary General Ambassador Claudio Bisogniero met in Brussels with the head of the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) of Pakistan, Lt General Nadeem Ahmed to discuss the Alliance's relief efforts in support of the flood victims.
Ambassador Bisogniero and Lt General Nadeem Ahmed spoke about the current situation and the efforts made by Pakistan to overcome the floods disaster.
The head of the NDMA expressed his gratitude for NATO's assistance and described the contribution made by the Alliance as measurable, tangible and very helpful.
He also shared views with his NATO interlocutors regarding the reconstruction plans of the Pakistani authorities for the months ahead.
As of today, NATO has organized 22 flights delivering 900.03 metric tons of relief items. This constitutes around 10 percent of the overall international assistance.
Responding to a request by the Government of Pakistan, the North Atlantic Council decided in August 2010 to provide airlift and sealift assistance for the delivery of donations by nations and humanitarian relief organizations.
